The Bears scored on four of their first five drives in the second half, and
Aaron Cawthorn had two second-half touchdown runs to ensure the Bears a 26-20 win on the road over UW-River Falls.
After falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter, the Bears cut the score to 7-3 at the half after a 41-yard field goal by
Brody Johnson halfway through the second quarter. The Bears opened the second half with an impressive 5-play, 50-yard drive that resulted in a 31-yard touchdown catch by
Nate Harrington from
James McNear to give the Bears a 9-7 lead after Johnson missed the extra point.
UW-RF countered with a one-yard dive by Dave Affeldt, and after a two-point conversion, the Falcons led Concordia by a 16-9 margin.
The Bears answered back, scoring on their next three possessions in the third and early fourth quarter on touchdown runs by Cawthorn of 5 yards and 15 yards and a 37-yard field goal by Johnson to give the Bears a 26-15 lead.
Nathan Anderson scored for UW-River Falls with 5:17 remaining in the game to cut the lead to 26-21, but the Bears were able to hold on for the win.
Cawthorn led the Bears offensive attack with 98 yards rushing on 17 carries and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 63 yards, including a 43-yard reception.
McNear completed 20-33 passes for 242 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions.
Brian Holmes ran for 85 yards on 11 carries, including a 41-yard run, and Harrington caught five balls for 93 yards and a touchdown.
The Bears defense limited UW-River Falls to 273 yards of total offense, while the Bears had 448 yards of offense.
Doug Cox led the defense with ten tackles, including six solo tackles, while
Bobby Purvin had nine tackles, with a 12-yard tackle for a loss.
Brad Scherer and
Travis Johansen each had seven tackles in the game.
