The Bears lost a heartbreaker on a Nancy Caldwell goal with 3:11 left in the first overtime to lift Augustana College to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Concordia Saturday afternoon in the season opener.
Caldwell's shot went just over goalkeeper
Hannah Turgerson's outstretched arms and into the top-left corner of the net.
Caldwell's goal ended a tightly-fought contest in which there were few quality scoring chances. The Bears had 13 shots and six on goal, while Augustana had 17 shots and 14 on goal. Freshman Hannah Turgerson had 13 saves in the net for the Bears.
Concordia had the best scoring chance in regulation when Hillary Johnson's shot hit the crossbar with 14 minutes left in the second period.
The Bears will travel to Vermillion to face the University of South Dakota on Sunday, Aug. 28.
