The Concordia pitching staff of Mandy Turba and Kristen Schmidt allowed just three hits in Concordia's two wins on Saturday afternoon in the first day of the NSIC Crossover in Winona. Turba threw a one-hit complete game in Concordia's 8-0 win over Northern State, and Kristen Schmidt struck out 15 in the Bears' 5-0 win over MSU Moorhead.
In the first game against Northern State, the Bears scored six runs in the first inning on four hits, including a grand slam home run by Tracie Enzler. They added runs in the third and sixth inning. For the game, the Bears scored 8 runs on 12 hits and two walks. Enzler went 2-2 with 4 RBIs. Turba picked her first win on the season after striking out four and walking only one.
Against MSU Moorhead, the Bears scored two in the first after Jennifer Pozzani reached on an error to leadoff the game, and Elizabeth Plante scored her on a double. Plante later scored on a single by Kristen Schmidt. Schmidt improved to 11-4 on the season with the win.
Concordia added two more in the third and one in the sixth to earn the win. For the game, the Bears scored five runs on five hits, and they were aided by four MSU Moorhead errors.
The Bears improve to 16-11 (2-0 NSIC) with the wins. They will face Bemidji State and UM Crookston tomorrow.
