Concordia-St. Paul (14-11) earned a sweep on the road over host Minnesota State Thursday night with a 5-2 win in the first game and a tight 2-0 win in game two.
In the first game, the Bears got on the board early when Jennifer Pozzani opened the game with a leadoff triple and scored on double by Elizableth Plante. Plante later scored on a single by Kristen Schmidt. With that, the Bears were up 2-0 in first inning. They got two more in the fifth inning on three hits and two walks. In the inning, Kelly Schwietz had a double.
For the game, the Bears scored five runs on ten hits. Kristen Schmidt earned her 10th win on the season, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out ten.
The second game proved to be a pitching battle, with both pitchers holding shutouts through six innings of work. The Golden Bears finally broke through in the top of the seventh. However, after MSU retired the first two batters, Tracie Enzler walked, and leadoff batter Jen Pozzani belted a her first home run of the season to left and produced the only runs of the game.
Allison Paitich allowed only two hits and one walk, in earning her fourth win on the season. She also had three strikeouts.
The Bears will open NSIC play this weekend at the NSIC Crossover in Winona this weekend.
