Concordia junior Kristen Schmidt pitched her fifth one-hitter of the season in the Bears' 5-0 win over Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa. She also had seven strikeouts in the game.
Concordia got on the board in the third inning when Jennifer Pozzani got a one-out hit and reached third on a pair of Peacock wild pitches. Vanessa Dufresne earned a walk and stole second. With runners on second and third, Elizabeth Plante singled to center field to score both Pozzani and Dufresne.
Pozzani led off the fifth inning with a single to third and scored on a double by Amanda Yurek. Yurek would score on a double by Schmidt.
In the sixth inning, the Bears manufactured another run after a leadoff bunt single by Katie Kessler. She advanced to second on a single by Kristen Linell. Tracie Enzler loaded the bases with a sacrifice bunt. With one out, Dufresne singled up the middle to score Kessler.
For the game, the Bears had eight hits. Pozzani was the only Bear with two hits, going 2-4 and scoring twice.
The Bears improve to 32-13 and will face NSIC rival Southwest Minnesota State tomorrow, Apr. 27, in Marshall, Minn.
