For the fourth consecutive day, the Golden Bears (8-7) drew a split on their California trip, this time with Point Loma Nazarene (16-2). CSP took game one 2-1 behind Kristen Schmidt's complete-game gem before dropping game two 5-1.
The Bears trailed by one going into the top of the seventh inning, but a leadoff walk by Mallory Olson and a single by Kelly Schweitz set up a two-run error with Nikki Smith at the plate to put the Bears up 2-1. Schmidt's victory puts her season record at 7-2, and she allowed just one run and three hits with one walk while striking out seven.
In game two, CSP jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the first on Amanda Yurek's RBI triple, but PLN rallied to score a pair of runs in the first and second innings to pull ahead 4-1. Allison Paitich suffered the loss for the Bears, and she falls to 1-5 on the season. Paitich settled down after the first two innings, allowing just one run over the final four.
The Bears return to the diamond tomorrow at noon Pacific Time as they take on Cal Baptist.
