CSP splits for third straight day against UC San Diego

For the third straight day, the Bears split with their opponent in California. This time, it was UC San Diego, and this time the Bears won the first game of the day 2-0 before suffering a tough 6-5 loss in game two.

Pitching ruled game one, as Kristen Schmidt tossed a gem for the Golden Bears, registering a two-hit shutout in which she struck out eight while walking only one. Schmidt also picked up two hits on the offensive side, while Tracie Enzler recorded her second career home run. Kristin Linell had a hit and a RBI in the win.

In the second game, the Bears scored five runs on six hits and took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but they were unable to hold the lead. The Tritons scored two runs on three extra-base hits. Shannon Miller led the Bears offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Allison Paitich took the loss after she allowed two runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings of relief. Mandy Turba started for the Golden Bears and lasted three full innings, allowing four runs, none of which were earned, on five hits.

The Bears return to action tomorrow, as they will play Point Loma Nazarene at 1:30 in San Diego.
