The Bears earned a split in their first action in California against NAIA school Vanguard. They lost the first game 7-1, but they bounced back to earn a split with a 1-0 win in game two on a Kristin Schmidt no-hitter.
In the first game, the Bears were held to just four hits and left seven runners on base. Tracy Enzler scored the Bears' only run in the 7th inning after earning a walk and scoring on a Kelly Schweitz double. Allison Paitich suffered the loss after giving up six runs, three earned, in 3.2 innings of work. Mandy Turba pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits.
In the second game, Kristin Schmidt pitched a no-hitter and limited Vanguard to two walks. The Bears got their one run in the top of the seventh off Kristen Linell's second home run of the season. The Vanguard pitchers combined to limit the Bears to only three hits. CSP left five runners on base.
Concordia improves to 5-4 on the season and will play CSU, San Dominguez on Feb. 28 at 1:00.
