Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Golden Bears' comeback falls short at Wayne State

Concordia-St. Paul (14-10, 4-7 NSIC) came back from a seven-point deficit with 1:37 to play to tie the game at 80 on junior Kenneth Pointer's three-point field goal with :19 on the clock but fell short at Wayne State (9-14, 5-6 NSIC) 81-80 Friday night in Wayne, Neb.

Pointer's game-winning three-point attempt with four seconds remaining was blocked by Dallas Hodges.

Senior Brian Jamros led all scorers with 24 points, connecting on five three-point field goals while shooting 8-18 from the field. Senior Justin Vandenberg added 18 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Kyle Marxhausen had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Nearly everyone was in foul trouble for Concordia, who racked up 28 team fouls, sent the wildcats to the line 35 times, and were outscored at the stripe 25-13. But Concordia hung around, thanks in large part to their play in the paint. CU outscored WSC 22-8 in the paint and 17-6 on second chance points.

With the loss, the Bears fall to a fifth-place tie with Southwest Minnesota State, while the Wildcats move into sole possession of fourth in the NSIC.

The Bears take on the Mustangs in Marshall, Minn. on Saturday night in a battle for fifth place in the league standings.
