The Concordia men's basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 63-57 win over Regis in the first game of the Chuck Stephens Memorial Classic in Pueblo, Colorado.
Ty Thomas and
Kenneth Pointer were the only Bears in double-figures with 14 points apiece.
The Bears scored the first two points of the game and never trailed after that. There was only one tie in the game at 4-4, and Concordia held a 36-25 halftime advantage. The Bears were able to hold off a second-half Regis rally when Regis closed to within four at 61-57 with :40 left in the game.
For the game, the Bears shot 25-48 (.521), but only 3-10 (.300) from behind the arc and 10-18 (.556) from the free-throw line. They held Regis to 19-46 (.413) from the field. Concordia committed 15 turnovers but had 11 steals, compared to Regis's two steals.
Joey Peel and
Kyle Marxhausen each had five rebounds to lead the Bears. Peel ended the game with seven points and a team-high four assists, while Marxhausen had eight points.
Concordia will play CSU=Pueblo on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
