Concordia University (4-10-2, 3-6-2 NSIC) played to a 1-1 tie after two scoreless overtimes against Southwest Minnesota State (4-8-4, 4-4-3 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Concordia Field despite outshooting the Mustangs 13-5 in 110 minutes of play.
SMSU took a 1-0 lead just before halftime when Cassie Raushel scored off of Noelle Bergman's corner kick at the 43:12 mark.
Concordia junior
Rachel Vitense tied the game at one early in the second half. Vitense drilled her goal when freshman
Casandra Rikkola's pass was deflected by SMSU keeper Michelle Gilbert right to Vitense, who buried it with a rocket off of her right foot.
Concordia had countless scoring opportunities the rest of the way, but Gilbert was solid in the net, saving 12 shots to earn the tie.
CU freshman goal keeper
Hannah Turgerson came in for the second half and played 65 shutout minutes in the net, stopping three shots to earn the tie for the Golden Bears.
Concordia returns to action next weekend when they travel to Minnesota Crookston on Oct. 22 and Bemidji State on Oct. 23. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m. start times.
