Wildcats tame Bears, 4-1

Concordia University (4-10-1, 3-6-1 NSIC) fell behind 3-0 in the first 18:14 of play en route to a 4-1 loss to NSIC rival Wayne State College (7-7-2, 5-4-1 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Field.

Wayne State extended their lead to 4-0 in the 57th minute on a penalty kick.

Freshman Sam Voeller scored Concordia's lone goal in the 77th minute on a breakaway set up by senior Lyndsey Hartleben and junior Rachel Vitense, who were each credited with assists on the play.

The Wayne State defense stifled the Golden Bear offense for much of the afternoon, and WSC goalkeeper Jamie Anderson recorded seven saves on the day.

Senior Kara Gamboni was charged with the loss after allowing three first-half goals. Freshman Hannah Turgerson played the final 45:00, recording four saves and one goal, with the lone goal being the penalty kick.

Concordia returns to action in a vital NSIC matchup tomorrow when they host Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m.
