Senior Jennifer Pozzani's season-high 22 points was not enough to propel no. 15 Concordia-St. Paul (11-6, 3-3 NSIC) past Northern State (12-6, 4-2 NSIC) as the Wolves defeated the Golden Bears 79-72 Sunday evening in Aberdeen, S.D.
Pozzani was 9-17 from the field and snagged a pair of steals. Senior Heidi Gill scored 18 points on 6-9 shooting and fouled-out in 21 minutes of action off the bench, and junior Ashley Smith contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals for the Bears. Senior Kayla Christensen had a team-high five assists off the bench.
The Bears hit more field goals (27 to 24) and three-pointers (8 to 3), but Northern State won the game at the foul line, hitting 28-35 (80.0 percent) to Concordia's 10-17 (58.8 percent).
Concordia has now lost two games in a row for the first time this season and fall a three-way tie for fourth in the NSIC, while Northern State and Minnesota Crookston are tied for second in the standings.
The Golden Bears return to the Gangelhoff Center for a non-conference match-up with Trinity Bible College on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., while their next NSIC contest is on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Winona State.
