The Golden Bears came out firing in the first half, shooting 55.3% from the floor in the first half en route to a 85-48 win over Wayne State Saturday night at the Gangelhoff Center.
The Bears were led by four in double figures, including Ashley Smith and Jennifer Pozzani, who scored 14 points and had five rebounds each. Kayla Christensen had 13 points and four steals, and Carly Christensen helped with 12 points and five rebounds. Nakia Carlisle led the Bears with nine rebounds. Whitney Smetana came off the bench to record a season-high five blocked shots.
Concordia started the game on a tear on the strength of 14 first-half points by Jennifer Pozzani and 10 from Carly Christensen. Lindsay Williams found her touch from long range, going 3 for 3 from downtown in the half. The Golden Bear defense forced 17 first-half turnovers by Wayne State and held them to 23.8% shooting. They took a 48-15 lead going into the break and never looked back as they completed the weekend home sweep with a 85-48 win over the Wildcats.
The Golden Bears take to the road next weekend with a pair of NSIC games against MSU Moorhead and Northern State. Tip-off for both games are scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
