Bears suffer loss to Bemidji State, 47-27

Bemidji State scored the first 31 points and rolled to a 47-27 win over Concordia in the NSIC opener in Bemidji. It was the second straight road loss for the Bears, and it snapped Concordia's four-game winning streak over Bemidji.

Although Concordia had more yardage for the game (CSP's 452 yards to BSU's 404 yards), the Beavers were able to score from all over the field, assembling four touchdown drives of 70 yards or more, including an 11-play, 99-yard touchdown march after a Bear fumble to start the third quarter.

BSU scored with relative ease to open the game, taking the kickoff and marching 85 yards in eight plays to take an early 7-0 lead on a 17-yard scamper by quarterback Nathan Sannes.

Concordia finally got on the board in the third quarter on a 31-yard touchdown reception by Wesley Hill from Nate Harrington. Hill also scored on a five-yard reception in the fourth quarter.

The Bears trailed 45-7 before Concordia put a string of scores together in the fourth quarter on TDs by Hill, Nate Harrington, and Brian Holmes.

For the game, Wesley Hill had nine catches for 143 yards, both career highs. Antwon Williams also had a career day with six catches for 112 yards. Devan Grell had six catches for 82 yards.

Nate Harrington also had a solid performance at quarterback, completing 20 of 39 passes for 293 yards (career highs) and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Doug Cox had a 17 tackles, one shy of a school record. He also had two for losses. Travis Johansen had 14 tackles, and Travis Mellor added 12 in the loss.

The Bears return home next weekend when they host Northern State in NSIC action at 1:30.
