The Golden Bears evened their record at 4-4 with their 1-0 defeat of the College of St. Catherine's on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Field.
St. Catherine's, who had not scored a goal in any of their first four games, put the Bears under fire early in the first half. However, they were unable to put anything past goalkeeper
Kara Gamboni, who stopped four first-half shots, most of them coming in the early stages of the contest.
With under 2:30 minutes remaining in the first half,
Angie Rockney placed a pass on a breakaway just over the St. Catherine's defense right to
Hillary Johnson, who slipped her shot right past Katie Knodel into the net to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Bears defense, led by seniors
Lyndsey Gagas and
maria radmacher, held st. Catherine's to just one shot on goal and three total shots. Meanwhile, the offense, led by Rockney, fired ten shots on Knodel. Gamboni recorded her fourth shutout of the season with the victory.
The Bears will hit the road tomorrow when they will take on the Mavericks of MSU, Mankato at 1:00 pm.
