Kristin Schmidt drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday to give Concordia a 1-0 win over St. Cloud State and force a second championship game in the NCAA North Central Region Tournament. The two teams will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. at Claussen-Westgate Field, with the winner advancing to the National Tournament in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Kelly Schwietz doubled to lead off the eighth and then advanced to third on a bunt single by Jennifer Pozzani. After a foul out and a strike out, Schmidt, the Golden Bears' pitcher, came to the plate with two outs and delivered a single down the left-field line that scored Schwietz.
Schmidt (22-11) struck out six batters and allowed just three Huskie hits, while SCSU pitcher Nicloe Webb struck out 11 and fell to 27-6.
Concordia has now won four straight tournament games after losing in the first round. The Golden Bears are making their first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
