Freshman Amanda Yurek drilled a two-run shot to left field in the sixth inning to propel the Golden Bears (36-18) over the MSU Moorhead Dragons 2-0 behind a strong outing from sophomore NSIC Pitcher of the Year Kristen Schmidt.
Schmidt allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out eight as she picked up her fifth shutout of the season, improving her record to 16-10. With her eight strikeouts, Schmidt surpassed 200 Ks on the season, bring her total to 202 in 179 innings. Schmidt also smacked one of Concordia's five hits, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
The Bears also set a team record with their 36th victory, breaking the 2001 record of 35.
Yurek finished the game 2-for-3 with her second homerun and two RBIs. Junior Jennifer Pozzani also went 2-for-3 at the dish and swiped her 12th stolen base on the season.
The Bears will move on in the tournament to face Minnesota Duluth tomorrow morning at 11:00 am. A win for the Bears earns them a birth in the NSIC championship at 3:00 pm. A loss means the bears will be back in action at 1:00 pm in a playback game against a team to be determined.
