Seniors Jennifer Pozzani and Heidi Gill each scored 18 points as Concordia-St. Paul (6-2) defeated Minnesota State (3-5) 84-73 Tuesday night at the Gangelhoff Center.
Gill shot 7-9 from the field, pulled down nine rebounds, had a pair of blocks, an assist and a steal in 35 minutes of action. Pozzani shot a perfect 6-6 from the line and was 6-11 from the field, had six rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes.
Point guard Desirae Jones was also busy, notching a team-high six assists while nabbing five rebounds. But Jones was clutch from the line down the stretch, helping to seal the Concordia victory shooting 7-8 at the stripe, scoring 13 points on the game.
Concordia's defense held the mavericks to a 36.5 field goal percentage and just 23.1 percent from downtown while the Bears shot a respectable 40 percent from the field as they survived a fiesty Maverick defense.
The Bears return to action Dec. 15 when they travel across town to Roseville, Minn. to tangle with Northwestern College.
