Junior Kenneth Pointer scored 18 points to lead Concordia-St. Paul to a 76-68 road victory over Upper Iowa Friday night. The win gives the Golden Bears a perfect 4-0 record while the Peacocks fell to 2-3 on the season.
Pointer grabbed seven rebounds and had a pair of steals and a pair of threes to go along with his game-high 18 points. The only other Golden Bear in double-figures was senior Brian Jamros, who added 15 points, hitting 3-5 from three-point territory and 6-6 from the stripe with five rebounds, four assists and a block.
It was a team-victory for Concordia as Pointer was the only player on the team to shoot more than six field goals (19). As a team, the Bears shot 41.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from downtown.
In a stingy second-half defensive effort, the Bears held Upper Iowa to 27 percent from the field, this following a first half in which the Peacocks could not miss as they converted at a 51.7 percent clip.
Concordia-St. Paul was simply able to outlast the Peacocks, outscoring them 32-5 off the bench and 34-27 in the second half. Turnovers also played a key role, as CSP outscored UIU 24-3.
The Bears return to action Tuesday, Dec. 7 as they return home to take on the Minnesota State (Mankato) Mavericks in the first men's/women's doubleheader of the season. The women tip-off at 6:00 while the men will hit the hardwood at 8:00.
