Despite a career-high 32 points from Justin Vandenberg, the Golden Bears suffered an 89-72 loss to South Dakota in the second game of the Sioux Valley Holiday Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D. While Vandenberg shot an impressive 13-17 (.765) from the field, the rest of the team managed to shoot only 12-45 (.255) from the field.
The Bears found themselves down early to South Dakota, who improves to 12-1 on the season. The Coyotes jumped out to an early 14-4 lead less than four minutes into the game and held a double-digit lead most of the game. The closest Concordia was able to cut into the lead was at 78-69 with 2:28 to play.
Brian Jamros had 15 points for the bears, while RJ Allen was the only other Bear to score in double-figures, with 12 points. Kyle Marxhausen led Concordia with seven rebounds.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 8-3 on the season. They will return to action on Monday, January 3, when they host Trinity Bible College at 8:00 in the Gangelhoff Center.
