The Augustana College women's basketball team downed no. 14 Concordia-St. Paul 81- 70 Wednesday night in the Sioux Valley Clinic Holiday Basketball Classic. Jennifer Pozzani paced Concordia with a game-high 21 points, while Nakia Carlisle and Ashley smith added 16 and 10 points, respectively. The loss drops the Golden Bears to 8-3 on the year.
The Vikings led 44-36 at halftime thanks to shooting 50 percent from the field in the first half. The Golden Bears rallied several times in the second half but never took the lead. CU pulled to within two twice late in the game, the last time coming at 67-65 with 8:17 to play.
However, Augustana outscored the Golden Bears 14-5 the rest of the way to hold off the comeback. The Bears were able to outscore the Vikings 26-16 in the paint and had 17 offensive rebounds in the game, but the Bears also gave Augustana 23 points off 24 Concordia turnovers.
Ashley Smith led the Bears with nine rebounds, while Pozzani added eight. The Bears will now take ten days off before opening NSIC action on jan. 7 at Bemidji State.
