Bears open NSIC season with 82-59 win over Bemidji State

The Bears opened the defense of their 2004 NSIC title with a 82-59 win over Bemidji State in Bemidji. Concordia got a game-high 18 points from Jennifer Pozzani, while Nakia Carlisle and Kayla Christensen added 14 and 13, respectively.

Pozzani scored 16 of her 18 points in the first half on 7-10 shooting to give the Bears a 41-35 halftime lead. Bemidji cut the Concordia lead to 2 at 43-41 early in the second half before the Bears went on a 39-11 run to end the game. During a stretch of 8:30 in the second half, Concordia held the Beavers to four points to open a 28-point lead, 73-45, at 8:24 left in the game.

The Bears outrebounded BSU 38-24 in the game, with Heidi Gill pulling in a career-high 11 rebounds. Nakia Carlisle also had a career-high six steals of Concordia's 16.

For the game, Concordia shot 29-55 (.527) from the field and made 19-26 (.731) from the free-throw line while holding the Beavers to 24-57 (.421) from the field.

With the win, the Bears improve to 9-3 (1-0 NSIC) on the season. They will play at Minnesota Crookston on Jan. 8 at 6:00.
