Senior Kayla Christensen scored 23 points while junior Ashley Smith added a double-double as no. 14 Concordia-St. Paul (8-2) defeated no. 24 South Dakota (8-3) 83-71 in the Augustana Classic at the Elmen center in Sioux falls, S.D.
K.christensen was 10-20 form the floor, hit a pair of threes and had four steals, three rebounds and two assists to lead Concordia. Smith added 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds and also sank a pair from beyond the arc.
Senior Jennifer Pozzani chipped-in an all-around performance, scoring nine points, pulling down nine rebounds along with five steals and four assists. Senior Heidi Gill was the only other Golden Bear in double-figures with 11 points, while junior Nakia Carlisle added nine.
The CSP defense was fiesty once again, forcing 20 turnovers, while the offense, led by senior floor general Desirae Jones, committed just nine. Jones finished the game with eight points, four assists and no turnovers while swiping three steals. The Bears held the advantage in steals 17-2 for the game.
Concordia-St. Paul looks to make it five in a row on Wednesday in their second and final game of the Augustana Classic when they battle host Augustana.
