The Concordia Golden Bears used a balanced attack to outlast host Augustana college 89-84 in overtime at the Sioux Valley Holiday Classic. Justin Vandenberg led a host of five bears in double-figures with 20 points, while RJ Allen added 19. Senior Brian Jamros became just the 11th player in school history to score 1,000 career points with 17 points. He now has 1,001 points.
In a game that saw 15 ties and 12 lead changes, the Bears were able grab the lead early in overtime on an RJ Allen layup at 3:55 of overtime and outlasted the Vikings by making 11 of 12 free throws in the extra period. Kenneth pointer scored 11 of his 19 points in overtime to lead the Bears.
Augustana let 62-58 with 5:35 left in regulation, before Brian Jamros sparked a 9-2 run with three straight three pointers to give the Bears a 67-64 lead with 4:18 to play before Augustana retook the lead with 51 seconds remaining at 72-71. Vandenberg made 1 of 2 free throws with 37 seconds remaining to tie the game. Augustana held the ball for the last shot, but a three point attempt by Ian Thomas rimmed out at the buzzer.
For the game, the Bears shot 29-61 (.475) from the field and 11-23 (.478) from three point range. They also converted 20-28 shots from the free throw line. With the win, Concordia improves to 8-2 on the season and will play South Dakota at 4:00 on December 29.
