The Golden Bears fell to St. Cloud State 67-62 in non-conference action in St. Cloud Monday night. The Bears were led by Justin Vandenberg with 17 points and six rebounds. Kenneth pointer added 13 and was the only other bear in double-figures.
The Huskies led 34-24 at half time and outscored the Golden Bears 14-6 in the first five minutes of the second half to take an 18 point lead. Concordia chipped away at the husky lead and drew the game to within one point, 61-60 on a Marlon Walker dunk at 1:41. SCSU's Matt Hanson made a jumper in the paint and SCSU led 63-60 with 1:08 left in the game. Nate Millerrsquo's basket with :21 seconds left gave SCSU a 65-60 lead until CSP's Vandenberg went to the line and made two free throws. SCSU's David Dreas sealed the game with two free throws with six seconds left.
The Bears shot a season-low .345 (19-55) from the field and were only 3-7 (.176) from three point range. Concordia did outrebound the huskies 41-36. Both teams committed only eight turnovers and the Bears managed only two steals.
The Bears fall to 7-2 on the season and will take a week off for Christmas break before traveling to Sioux Falls, S.D. to play in the Augustana tournament.
