Senior Brian Jamros was 6-of-11 from downtown and scored 24 points to lead Concordia-st. Paul (2-0) to a 72-69 victory over UW-Stout (1-2) Saturday afternoon at the Gangelhoff Center.
The Golden Bears trailed 69-67 until Jamros drilled a three off an RJ Allen pass with seven seconds left to put CSP up by a point. A UW-Stout turnover led to an Allen layup with only four seconds on the clock. UW-Stout's Ryan Stangl got a clean look at a game-tying three-pointer, but fell short as CSP cruises off to a 2-0 start.
Allen ended up shooting 5-6 from the field, scoring 11 points and dishing out four assists. Jamros led the bears with five assists and also contributed four rebounds, a pair of steals and a block in a solid all-around performance. Aaron Ackerson led the way on the glass, pulling down six boards and adding a block with seven points.
The Bears recovered from shooting 23.5 percent from the field in the first half (8-34) by shooting a blistering 77.3 percent (17-22) in the second half. On the game, they ended up 44.6 percent and 43.5 percent from downtown, hitting ten three-point field goals as a team. CSP was also solid at the line, shooting 12-14 for the contest.
The Bears return to the hardwood Tuesday night when North Central Conference rival Minnesota Duluth visits the Gangelhoff Center for their first contest since leaving the Northern Sun after last season. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
