Bears handle Hardrockers, 96-55

Senior Jeniifer Pozzani scored 17 second-half points to lead the tenth-ranked Golden Bears 96-55 over the Lady Hardrockers in their home opener in the Four Points by Sheraton Classic at the Gangelhoff Center. Concordia-St. Paul wins their first game of the year to improve to 1-1 while South Dakota Tech falls to 5-2 with the loss.

Pozzani scored a game-high 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting. She also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and had three steals. Senior Kayla Christensen pitched in 14 points while junior Nakia Carlisle added 12 in a balanced scoring attack for CSP.

The Concordia-St. Paul defense held South Dakota Tech to 17-of-60 shooting, just 28.3 percent and forced 16 steals, led by junior Ashley Smith with four. The Bears also dominated the glass, holding a 56-42 advantage as senior Carly Christensen and freshman Whitney Smetana each hauled down seven rebounds to go with Pozzani's nine.

The Bears ended up 37-for-80 from the field (46.3 percent) on the day and drilled eight three-point field goals. The Concordia bench outscored the Hardrockers 58-20 and nine players played at least 14 minutes for CSP.

Concordia-St. Paul returns to the floor Saturday at 3:00 p.m. In the final game of the Four Points by Sheraton Classic at the Gangelhoff Center.
