No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul (2-1) defeated Chadron State (0-3) 99-66 in their second game in the Four Points by Sheraton classic, held at the Gangelhoff Center. The Bears went 2-0 in the classic, and senior Jennifer Pozzani was named Tournament MVP while teammate Heidi Gill was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Pozzani scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting for the Bears and added four assists and a pair of steals. Gill scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting while also pulling down four rebounds and swiping three steals with two assists. Pozzani finished the weekend with 39 points and had 15 rebounds and five steals while Gill added 26 with ten rebounds and five steals.
Five Golden Bears scored in double-figures as CSP continues to spread their early-season scoring. The Golden Bear bench was key once again, outscoring Chadron State's bench, 43-16. Concordia used a fast-paced offense to dominate the Eagles as they held a 33-8 advantage in fast-break scoring.
Concordia shot 44.2 percent from the field and held Chadron State to 38.6 percent. The Eagles held the edge on the glass with a 52-46 rebounding margin, but were unable to take care of the ball, turning it over 28 times to CSP's 11. The Concordia defense forced 21 steals while Chadron State forced just four.
The Eagles were led by Cady Taylor, who was their lone representative on the All-Tournament Team. Taylor scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She was 8-for-13 from the field while teammate Lindsay Erwin took care of the glass, nabbing 11 boards.
Concordia-St. Paul will return to the floor on Friday, Nov. 26 when they take on St. Cloud State in the Minnesota-Duluth Thanksgiving Classic before taking on Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday, Nov. 27.
