Sophomore
Rachel Vitense recorded her first career hat trick and had an assist as Concordia University (6-7) defeated Bethel College (2-8-1) 5-0. The shutout was the sixth of the season for junior goalkeeper
Kara Gamboni.
The score was deadlocked at zero until senior
Lyndsey Gagas broke the tie with her second goal of the season in the 27th minute off of a corner kick from freshman
Hillary Johnson.
With under ten minutes to play and the Bears leading by one, Vitense drilled a free kick to the left of Royals goalie Jennie Pulford to give CSP a 2-0 lead at halftime. Sophomore
Katie Wamsley added the third goal for Concordia, her first career goal, in the 72nd minute of play. It was assisted by senior
Angie Rockney and Vitense.
Vitense rounded out the scoring with two more goals in the final ten minutes of play with Rockney and freshman
Krysta Briese picking up the assists on the final goal.
The seven points for Vitense are her career high and a season team high as well. Last season,
Rachel Flaherty set the team record for points in a game with eight against Northwestern College, scoring three goals and picking up two assists.
The Bears kickoff conference play this weekend when they play host to Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
