T. Dwayne Waltower joined the Concordia football staff in the spring of 2016 as an assistant defensive line coach. He joins Concordia after spending three years (2013-15) at Hamline University as running backs coach for the Pipers.
In addition to his on-field coaching, Waltower will assist the program with the equipment room.
He brings a number of years of experience to Concordia's staff, spending nine seasons at Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio (2000-07, 09) where his coaching career began. In 2008, he branched out for a season at Fairfield High School (Ohio) before returning to Withrow HS. In his 10 prep seasons as an assistant football coach in Ohio, Waltower worked exclusively with defensive linemen.
He came to the Twin Cities for the 2011 and 2012 seasons as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at North High School in Minneapolis before landing the Hamline assistant coaching position.
Originally from the Twin Cities, Waltower is a graduate of Park Center High School and began his college football career at North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) where he made an immediate impact as an All-Region performer as a freshman in 1992 before earning All-America honorable mention status as a sophomore in 1993.
His strong play at NDSCS allowed him to continue his career at New Mexico State University in 1995, earning Defensive Player of the Game recognition for his performance against top-ranked Florida. He concluded his career at Western Illinois University where he earned a degree in communications in 1996.
In his college football career, Waltower started in 42 out of 44 games across the three schools including a pair of NCAA Division I stops and was inducted into the North Dakota State College of Science Athletic Hall of Fame for football in 2008.
Off the field, Waltower is now a Gear Up Site Coordinator at North High Academy.
