#17 Bryan Lippincott, Baseball, Third Base
6-4 | 210 | Sr. | Des Moines, Iowa | Johnston HS
Lippincott repeated as Capital One Academic All-American of the Year as a senior, as selected by CoSIDA. He was also named All-America First Team at third base by the coaches (ABCA), media (NCBWA) and SIDs (Daktronics).
He won the NCAA batting title, with his .494 average leading the nation at all three NCAA levels.
In June, Lippincott was drafted in the 19th round by the Washington Nationals in the 2012 MLB Draft.
He also secured the "triple crown" of regional awards as he was named Central Region Player of the Year by the SID's (Daktronics), coaches (ABCA) and media (NCBWA). All three honors come with an All-Region First Team distinction.
Lippincott was also a national finalist for the Tino Martinez Award, given annually to the top player in Division II baseball where he finished third on the final vote tally among a national panel of media, baseball SID's, coaches and a fan vote.
He's achieved lofty awards after winning the Central Region's "triple-slash-crown" as he led all NSIC and RMAC teams in hitting (.494), on base percentage (.594) and slugging (.864) by considerable margins. While his .494 average led the nation, he finished second in the country in OBP and third in slugging.
His storied collegiate career includes his first career home run being a walk-off in the Metrodome as a freshman to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors just a few weeks into his career. As a sophomore, he homered in six-straight games and broke the .400 barrier. As a junior, he went on a hitting streak that spanned nearly a full season, hitting safely in a school record 28-games in a 36 game shortened season. His senior year, without much left to add to the list of achievements, he hit for his first cycle and hit his first career grand slam - both achievements were his first at any level of baseball.
As a senior, Lippincott set new school records in average (.494) and on base percentage (.594) while his slugging percentage was second all-time. He tied the school doubles record (19) and was intentionally walked 15 times. His 133 total bases and 76 hits were both third most in school history in a season. He holds career records in average (.428), runs (170), doubles (63) and triples (12) and ranks in the top-5 in the following career stats: at bats, hits, RBI, total bases, stolen bases, slugging percentage, on base percentage, home runs and walks.
Off the field, Lippincott graduated with a 4.0 grade point average and was a two-time Academic All-America First Team selection. He was active on campus as a 3-year resident assistant that came with being appointed a senior resident assistant in 2011-12.
