Javon Hering brings his expertise as specialists coach to the Concordia sidelines, joining the program in the spring of 2026. 

He brings nine years of coaching experience to the Golden Bears, most recently spending the 2025 season as special teams coordinator at Yellow Medicine East High School (Granite Falls, Minn.). 

In 2024, Hering coached at the professional level in the Arena Football League as a special teams coordinator. 

Hering also has strong college coaching experience, serving as specialists coach at Missouri Western State University in 2022 and Midwestern State University (Texas) in 2021 including a Lone Star Conference championship. He picked up his first college experience in Minnesota, however, leading the specialist unit at Carleton College in 2019 while also assisting the football staff as St. Thomas Academy reached the 2019 MSHSL Prep Bowl. 

His coaching career kicked off at the prep level as volunteer specialist coach at Eastview High School. 

A Minnesota native, Hering was the 13th-ranked punter in the prep class of 2014, landing with the University of Minnesota Crookston as the Golden Eagles' punter before transferring to FCS-member South Dakota State University. 

With the Jackrabbits, Hering studied sociology and criminal justice.
