Ellie Duffy joined the Golden Bear coaching staff for the 2013 season. She is no stranger to the program after spending the previous five seasons as a member of the Concordia volleyball team.
Duffy, a native of Fridley, Minn., was a Kelly Award winner as the NSIC’s top female student-athlete and was a finalist for the 2013 Woman of the Year Award during her senior season. She was also named to the Capital One Academic All-America, AVCA All-America and NCAA Division II All-Tournament Teams.
She helped lead the Golden Bears to NCAA Championships in each of her four years of eligibility, adding a redshirt championship to her resume for five total titles. As a senior, Duffy led the team in kills with a career-high 476. Her 476 kills ranked 32nd in Division II and fifth in the NSIC. Duffy also led the NSIC with 52 aces. She played in 123 matches in her career with 1,084 kills with a .274 attack percentage and was a three-time team captain.
Duffy was also the President of Concordia’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Tri-Pi Math Club, she volunteered at Children’s Hospital, reverse trick-or-treated to collect food for local food shelves and helped organize several breast cancer awareness and Make-A-Wish fundraisers. She was also active in Concordia’s science club, serving as Club’s Activities Chair and Club Treasurer. During this time, she helped organize a Be the Match bone marrow drive, participated in several Feed My Starving Children service trips, helped organize Science Olympics for local high school students and performed science experiments with local youth in the Chemistry in the Library program.
Duffy graduated from Totino-Grace High School and was a two-time All-State selection, as well as two-time conference Player of the Year as a prep.
She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in biostatistics at the University of Minnesota and earned a double major in math and biology at Concordia.
