Sean Donnelly joined Concordia-St. Paul's track & field coaching staff for the 2016-17 academic year as a throws coach.

An elite athlete, Donnelly is training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the hammer throw and was an Olympic trials finalist in 2016. He recently compled his eligibility as a graduate student at the University of Minnesota where he was an All-American for the Gophers.

Prior to becoming a Division I All-American, Donnelly was a four-time Division III National Champion and eight-time All-American at Mount Union. A well-rounded student-athlete, he was a Capital One (CoSIDA) Academic All-American and the NCAA Division III Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year, also earning 2014 NCAA Division III Field Athlete of the Year honors while at Mount Union. He helped Mount Union capture the program's first outdoor track & field national championship in 2014.

He joins Concordia's staff with a strong background as a strength & conditioning coach, spending the past year as a volunteer intern with the Gophers staff. He also gained experienced as a speed, strength and conditioning coach at NST Sports Performance in Canton, Ohio during the summer of 2015. His strength & conditioning coaching career started at in 2012 as a summer volunteer intern at the Michael Johnson Performance at SPIRE Institute and he was a volunteer intern at The Spot Athleteics in 2014. During his undergraduate work at Mount Union, he was a student strength & conditioning coach for the track & field program, as well.

He began his throws coaching as a self-employed private high school throws/strength coach in Alliance, Ohio for a year and a half starting in 2014. During this experience, Donnelly helped three athletes qualify for the Ohio State Championships seven different times in both the shot put and discus.

Donnelly earned a degree in exercise science with minors in coaching and philosophy from Mount Union and is currently working towards a master's degree in applied kinesiology at Minnesota.

He is a certified strength & conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
