David Pieper, also known as Peeps, came to Concordia University, St. Paul in the fall of 2015 as an Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. He specializes in the long and middle distance events on the track and works very closely developing the steeplechase event group.
As a Golden Bear, Coach Pieper has assisted the men's and women's distance crew in breaking numerous school records, earning All-Conference honors in the NSIC and achieving All-American honors at the NCAA Division II level. Many of the athletes Pieper has coached have continued their running careers after their time at CSP.
Prior to his coaching career, Pieper worked as a professional track and field timer where he timed, scored and officiated meets ranging from high school, collegiate and professional levels of competition, notably the 2016 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.
As an athlete, Pieper attended St. Cloud State University, where he competed in Cross Country and Track from 2008-13 and was on the NSIC Academic Honor Roll. There, he was a point contributor in cross country, and on the track competed primarily in the steeplechase, 3K, and 5K.
Pieper holds a master’s degree in exercise science from Concordia and a bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State. He is certified as an Endurance Specialist through the USTFCCCA and is a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach.
