Kent Getzlaff enters his fourth year on the Concordia University men's coaching staff and has always remained close to the Concordia basketball program.
Getzlaff played for Concordia from 1998-02, starting his career when CU was known as the Comets and helping the squad make the transition to the NCAA Division II level, earning plenty of playing time and spending time as a starter for the Comets/Golden Bears.
He played for his late father, Dennis Getzlaff, who is the all-time wins leader in Concordia basketball history with 133.
Getzlaff brings plenty of experience to the CU coaching staff following his playing days. His most recent coaching experience was as the head boys coach for South St. Paul High School, where he served in that role from 2004-09. While coaching at South St. Paul, Getzlaff also taught for as many years.
His first coaching job was for the Woodbury High School junior varsity squad from 2002-04 while he also taught at Cottage Grove Junior High School.
While Kent will continue his work teaching at South St. Paul High School, he will also serve as an adjunct professor at Concordia in the master's of education program.
The Getzlaff family has continued their involvement with the Concordia basketball program with the creation of the Dennis Getzlaff Memorial Scholarship, presented annually to a student-athlete on the team.
Kent and his wife, Mary have two daughters, Payton (6) and Reese (4).
