Link to CU Video (shown to the right)The campaign asked NSIC Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) in creating short (30-60 second) videos to underscore the theme - "It's a Slam Dunk - Don't Drive Drunk". After the videos were submitted they were judged on Overall Impact, Creativity, Memorable Content and Delivery and Clear Message.
Late on Saturday night in July of 2012, a drunk driver swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a car carrying Southwest Minnesota State's head men's basketball coach Brad Bigler, his wife, his wife's grandmother and his five-month old son, Drake. Drake was killed in the crash. The driver of the other car had two previous drunk driving arrests in 2000 and 2005.
In honor of Drake and to encourage students and fans to not drink and drive, Brad and Heather Bigler, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference along with the NCAA and the
TEAM Coalition brought this campaign to NSIC basketball schools.
The winning video concept was developed by Concordia University, St. Paul's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) led by assistant athletic director and SAAC advisor

Tom Rubbelke, director of athletics at Concordia. "The group was proud to contribute to such an important initiative in the conference and wanted to make an impact to raise awareness. I am so proud of them for developing the winning video as I know it was a goal that they had set at the beginning of the year."
Entries from each school will be seen during halftime of conference basketball games throughout the month of February. Concordia will display its winning video on the second floor concourse of Gangelhoff Center the weekend of Jan. 31-Feb. 1 home games. Also, all video submissions are available to view on the
NSIC SAAC Facebook page.
To help further raise awareness, during one weekend of February, each NSIC SAAC group will have a booth at their arena to have people in attendance sign a pledge card stating that they will not drive drunk. Each person that signs the pledge card will receive a blue keychain with an inscription of the theme "It's a Slam Dunk-Don't Drive Drunk", the NSIC and NCAA logos along with Drake's name on it.
