Collected letters in both baseball and football for the Lakers … All-Minneapolis City Conference selection … was a team captain for his baseball team and earned MVP honors … as a senior, pitched in seven games with 33 strikeouts in 37 innings with a 2.46 ERA ... in his junior year, he finished with a 5-3 record and 1.43 earned run average with 54 strikeouts in 44.0 innings pitched, and allowed only 27 hits, 14 walks and nine earned runs … slashed .293/.379/.397 with 17 hits that included five doubles and a home run … helped his baseball team to a 17-7 record and a Minneapolis Conference Championship.
