ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (2-0-3, 1-0-1) closed out the opening weekend of NSIC play with a 4-1 win over Jamestown (1-3-1, 1-1) on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Sea Foam Stadium.
Following the game, head coach
Steve Bellis stated, "Today we showed some quality on the ball and created a lot of great opportunities. We were able to use our squad in the second half and saw some great depth."
The win marked the Golden Bears' first conference victory of the season after opening conference play with a draw against Northern State.
Sophia Haase highlighted the day for the Navy and Gold, scoring her third collegiate hat trick. She became the first Golden Bear in program history to record three career hat tricks and the first to score two hat tricks in a single season.
CSP dominated the game in all phases and categories, tallying a season-high 29 shots along with a 5-3 corner kick advantage.
In the first half, Concordia got the scoring started early.
Sophia Haase put the Golden Bears on the board in the second minute, finding the back of the net off assists from
Breanna Weilert and
Lexi Pettit. Haase added to the lead in the 16th minute with another assist from Pettit before completing her hat trick nine minutes later, this time off an assist from
Lainie Wehmhoff.
Following Haase's goal, Jamestown got on the board in the 26th minute off a strike from Julliet Lopez to make the score 3-1.
The Golden Bears held a 17-6 shot advantage in the first half, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
CSP continued its strong play in the second half, looking to close out the weekend on a high note. The Golden Bears kept the pressure on Jamestown, adding to their lead in the 84th minute when
Lexi Pettit converted a free kick with a header off an assist from
Brooke Nelson.
The Golden Bears locked down defensively in the second half, outshooting the Jimmies 12-3 while
Sydney Potter made one save to preserve the lead.
The Golden Bears continued to control the match in the second half, keeping Jamestown off the scoreboard to secure the 4-1 victory.
Lexi Pettit notched a career-high two assists in today's match while scoring her first goal of the season.
Four different Golden Bears recorded an assist in today's match, with Pettit leading the way with two, while Wehmhoff, Nelson and Weilert each recorded one.
Wehmhoff and Weilert each notched their first assists of the season, with Weilert recording the first assist of her Golden Bear career.
Senior goalkeeper
Sydney Potter recorded two saves while facing nine shots on the day.
Nine different Golden Bears recorded a shot in today's match, led by Pettit with eight.

Sienna Latta had three,
Milla Klostermann had two, and Maddison Balashitis,
Ava Hopper,
Ashley Bennett and
Hope Schensema each had one.
On the defensive side of the pitch,
Maddison Balashaitis,
Madeleine Thompson and
Morgan Bilczewski led the team in minutes played while holding the Jimmies to three shots on goal and three corner kicks.
The Golden Bears will be back in action on the road in North Dakota, facing UMary on Friday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m. and Minot State on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m.
