WAYNE, Neb. — The Concordia-St. Paul softball (19-14, 8-2 NSIC)team suffered a sweep on Friday afternoon, dropping both games of a doubleheader to the Augustana Vikings (15-16, 8-2 NSIC). The Golden Bears fell 8-0 in six innings in game one, before holding a 5-3 lead in game two and losing on a walkoff three-run home run, 6-5.
Riley Rosenthal went 4-for-7 in the afternoon, including two hits in game two where she smacked her first home run of the season and drove in one run. Ava Blake tallied two hits in two at bats in game one. Alexis Monty went 2-for-4 in game two with a double, run scored and stolen base.
Emmy Bowne took the loss in game one, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits, falling to 8-7 on the year. Tatum Dunlavy took the circle in game two, tossing 4.2, giving up three earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout.
The Golden Bears will look to bounce back tomorrow morning when they take on the Wayne State Wildcats at the Wildcat Dome. First pitch of game one is set for 10 a.m.
Game One: CSP 0, AU 8 (6 Inn.)
After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings got on the board first with an RBI single to centerfield, before another single to right made it a 2-0 ballgame. Augie added on another run in the third to open up a three run lead.
The Vikings tacked on another in the fourth inning, before breaking it open in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to left center and two RBI double to right center, scoring three runs on four hits in the inning to open up a 7-0 lead.
A homer in the bottom of the sixth opened a 8-0 advantage and gave the Vikings the win in six innings.
CSP managed three hits in game one, two of which came off the bat of Ava Blake to record her seventh multi-hit game of the season. Riley Rosenthal came up with the Golden Bears third hit of the game, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Makayla Wigern made her third appearance of the season, going 0.2 of an inning and giving up one earned run.
Game Two: CSP 5, AU 6
Augie got on the board first in game two, with a solo home run down the left field line to take the game's first lead. Tatum Dunlavy held the Vikings off the board in the second, with a strikeout, lineout and groundout to stay within one.
The Golden Bear bats got to work in the third, starting with a Alexis Monty leadoff double, followed by a Lily Burke RBI single up the middle to tie the game at one.
A Riley Rosenthal, Lily Burke double steal put two runners in scoring position for CSP. Nora Brandt came through, lining a single to left to bring home Burke and give the Golden Bears the lead.
Concordia tacked on two more in the inning on a Bryleigh Dana double to center, plating two to make it a 4-1 game.
A pair of singles in the fourth, plated one run for the Vikings and cut the CSP lead to 4-2. Dunlavy worked out of danger though, forcing a fly out and lineout to get out of it with the lead intact.
Augie continued to chip away, adding on another in the fifth on a two out RBI single through the left side of the infield to make it a one run game. Abi Carter came on in relief of Dunlavy and got the final out of the inning to preserve the CSP lead.
Looking to add an insurance run in the seventh, Riley Rosenthal strode to the plate and launched an 0-2 pitch down the left field line for her first roundtripper of the year, a solo shot to make it a 5-3 game.
Carter got the first out in the bottom of the seventh, but the Vikings rallied, putting two on with a double to left and a single to bring the winning run to the plate. Kierra Lubovich hit a walkoff three-run homer to left center to give Augie a 6-5 win and the sweep.
Alexis Monty went 2-for-4 in game two, recording her third multi-hit performance in her last three games. Riley Rosenthal's 2-for-4 raises her average to .345 this season
