INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team was featured in the first edition of the NCAA Central Region Rankings. The Golden Bears are one of four NSIC teams mentioned as under consideration in the central region.
CSP (19-6, 15-5 NSIC), UMary (21-8, 14-6 NSIC), No.1 Minnesota State (26-0, 20-0 NSIC) and Minnesota Duluth (18-7, 16-5 NSIC) all appeared in the first of three rankings. In the initial ranking the top 10 teams are listed in alphabetical order, subsequent rankings will be ordered.
Three GAC schools and three MIAA schools were listed in the regional rankings. Fort Hays State (23-2, 14-2 MIAA), Central Missouri (19-5, 13-2 MIAA) and Washburn (17-7, 10-5 MIAA) represented the MIAA and Harding (21-3, 15-3 GAC), Arkansas Tech (18-4, 14-4 GAC) and Northwestern Oklahoma (16-8, 11-7 GAC) were the GAC schools listed.
The NSIC, the Great American Conference (GAC) and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) make up the 41-team NCAA Central Region. The top eight teams in the region advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament on March 13, 14 & 16. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of each conference, with the five remaining spots being awarded as at-large bids.
The Golden Bears are seeking their second consecutive central region bid and 12th regional appearance in program history.
Concordia-St. Paul finishes the regular season this week with a road game against St. Cloud State Wednesday night, Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m., with the regular season finale at home Saturday, Feb. 21, against Minnesota State at 1 p.m.
