Haack’s program record 44 points power Golden Bears past Warriors in double overtime

The Golden Bears rally late in the fourth quarter and overtime to squeak out a tough road win in Winona.

WINONA, Minn. — Behind a career-high and program record 44 point night from Lydia Haack the Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team prevailed in double overtime against Winona State. Down by six points with 1:36 to play in the fourth, the Golden Bears rallied, tying the game at 69 on a buzzer beater three from Haack to send the game to overtime.

In the extra period both teams scored five points a piece to remain deadlocked, forcing a second overtime period. Haack provided seven points in the second overtime, and Leah Dengerud drew a key foul with three seconds to play, nailing both free throw attempts as the Golden Bears took down the Warriors, 87-85.

With 44 points Haack sets a new single-game program record for points, surpassing Jolene Bammert's 42 points against St. Scholastica in the 1984-85 season. The previous record for points in a game in Concordia's Division II era is 37 set by Anna Schmitt in 2018. Haack breaks her previous single-game high of 35, set on Feb. 15, 2025 against MSU Moorhead. It is also the most points in a game by any player in the NSIC this season, besting the previous high of 41 set by UMary's Bergen Kinnebrew on Nov. 29.

The senior guard also set a new single-game record for field goals made and attempted, going 15-of-33 from the field, 5-of-12 from three-point range and 9-of-10 at the free throw line. Haack also added 8 assists, and provided a spark on defense with 3 steals.

Ashley Schuelke dropped 11 points on the night, going 4-of-7 from the field, with 1 rebound and 1 assist, while coming away with 3 blocks on defense. Lauren Wilson scored 7 points, while grabbing 8 boards and 5 assists. Emma Mommsen tallied 7 points as well, with 8 rebounds, 1 block and 2 steals.

Lauren Feddema scored 9 points off the bench for CSP, hitting on 3-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc.

As a team the Golden Bears went 30-of-79 (38%) from the field, while the Warriors shot 26-of-66 (37.9%) on the night. At the charity stripe CSP went 14-of-18 (77.8%), while Winona State went 27-of-43 (62.8%) at the line.

In a tightly contested first half, Lauren Feddema drilled a three pointer to give CSP a five point lead with three minutes to play in the half. Lydia Haack drove the lane for two with less than a minute to play as the Golden Bears led, 34-31 at the break.

A quick 5-0 run to open the third gave CSP an eight point lead, later in the quarter Lydia Haack drilled a three ball to give the Golden Bears a nine-point advantage and their biggest of the night. Winona State stormed back in the fourth using a 10-5 run to take a 60-52 lead.

Each team scored five points in the first overtime as the game remained deadlocked at 74. Winona State grabbed the first four points of the second overtime, but a 6-2 run put CSP in front 81-80. The Warriors tied the game at 85 with 27 seconds to play, the Golden Bears got the final shot, Haack couldn't get the three pointer to go but Leah Dengerud drew the foul on the second chance opportunity. The senior guard made both attempts, as CSP escaped with a 87-85 win.
