INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 13 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (2-1) wrapped up play at the UIndy Invite with a pair of wins on Saturday, sweeping both West Virginia State (1-1) and Tiffin (Ohio) (1-2) at the Ruth Lilly Center.
MATCH 1: Concordia-St. Paul 3, West Virginia State 0
The Golden Bears opened the day with a sweep of West Virginia State in the first ever meeting between the two teams, winning set one 25-23 before cruising to 25-15 and 25-11 wins in sets two and three.
CSP hit .314 as a team in the match, logging 46 kills and 45 digs. The Yellowjackets hit just .063 with 24 kills and 33 digs.
Sophomore
Makenna Nold registered her second double-double of the season in as many matches, finishing with 14 kills, 10 digs, and two block assists. Junior
Mehlayna Straub also reached double figures on offense, hitting .444 and tallying 11 kills, three block assists, and a solo block.
Senior
Ellie Sieling turned in another strong all-around performance for the Golden Bears with nine digs, seven kills, three service aces, and two block assists. Libero
Cassie Sieling led the defense with 11 digs and four set assists.
Redshirt freshman
Audrey Waterman paced the offense with 24 set assists while
Reagan Hickey added 11.
For the Yellowjackets, Nicole Gartner Custodio reached double figures with 10 kills on .316 hitting.
MATCH 2: Concordia-St. Paul 3, Tiffin 0
The Golden Bears dominated all three sets in the second match of the day, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-18 to secure the sweep over the Dragons. As a unit, CSP hit .394 with 45 kills and 38 digs while Tiffin hit .082 with 30 kills and 36 digs.
Nold just missed out on yet another double-double, logging 12 kills on .357 hitting and adding nine digs, a service ace, and a block assist. Through three matches this season, Nold ranks third in the NSIC with an average of 4.36 kills per set.
Ellie Sieling was similarly effective, hitting .421 with 10 kills, six digs, two service aces, and a block assist.
Straub and freshman
Kaelyn Snoozy turned in identical performances on offense, finishing with eight kills each on a .467 hitting clip. Straub also added a pair of solo blocks in the contest.
Senior
Natalee Rolbiecki anchored the back row in match two, logging nine digs and two set assists.
Hickey led the team with 24 set assists while Waterman finished with 11.
The Golden Bears will be back in action next weekend with four matches at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colorado, beginning with faceoffs against Missouri Western State and No. 2 Angelo State on Friday.
