Golden Bears play to 1-1 draw with Marauders

Nicole Moore scored the lone CSP goal

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's soccer team (5-1-1, 2-1-1) battled to a 1-1 draw against the Marauders of UMary (2-3-2, 0-2-2 NSIC) on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Sea Foam Stadium.

Nicole Moore highlighted the Golden Bears play, scoring the lone goal to mark her team-leading third goal of the season.

In the first half, UMary was firing on all cylinders and not letting the CSP offense take control of the ball. After six shots by the Marauders, the Navy and Gold were able to take the reins and rifle off nine shots of their own.

The Golden Bears held a 10-7 shot advantage after the first half but were unable to capitalize on a scoring chance and looked to regroup in the break.

Coming out from halftime, CSP was looking for their first score of the day, stopping every attempt for the Marauders to steal possession and forcing their way down the field.

In the 53rd-minute, Moore got the pass from Lexi Pettit and sent her shot riffling across the net to put the Golden Bears on the board 1-0.

It was a back-and-forth effort from both teams going forward with both teams looking to add a goal to the scoreboard.

The Marauders scored the equalizer at the 75th-minute by an unassisted goal from Dina Polanco to put the pressure on the Navy and Gold.

Both teams' defenses turned on the bright lights and stopped anything coming their way to end the game in a 1-1 draw.

Today's draw marks the first of the season for Concordia and the first draw since the NSIC semifinals last season.

CSP held a slight shot advantage 17-13 and took five corner kicks on the day while holding the Marauders to just two shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Sydney Potter got her sixth start of the season in the net where she recorded one save to bring her season total to 11.

Leading the defense for the Golden Bears was Clare Snapko and Belle Abruzzo who each played a 90-minute outing. The full outing was Snapko and Abruzzo's fifth of the season.

Anchoring the midfielders was Sophia Haase and Brooke Nelson who each stayed on the pitch for the full 90-minutes.

Lexi Pettit tallied a career-high six shots in today's draw to lead the team including two shots on goal. With her assist on Moore's goal she recorded her second assist of the season.

The Golden Bears will return to action next weekend for a pair of road games. First they will visit the Wildcats of Wayne State on Friday and finish the weekend with the Vikings of Augustana on Sunday.
