MINOT, N.D. – The No. 13 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (8-3, 4-0 NSIC) played its first road Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match of the season on Friday evening, sweeping Minot State (1-11, 0-4 NSIC) at the Minot State Dome.
The Golden Bears came out hot in the opening set, cruising to a comfortable 25-13 win. Set two was more competitive throughout, but it was still Concordia coming away with the 25-20 win. The third set was a similar story with CSP pulling away late for a 25-16 win to cap off the sweep.
The win preserved CSP's perfect record against Minot State, with the Golden Bears now owning an all-time record of 16-0 against the Beavers and a mark of 9-0 in meetings in Minot. The victory also preserved Concordia's flawless record in NSIC play this season and pushed its active winning streak to five matches.
The Golden Bears quickly surged to a 10-3 advantage in the opening set and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire and claiming a dominant 25-13 win. In the set, CSP logged 12 kills on .333 hitting while limiting the Beavers to eight kills on a .000 hitting percentage. Concordia also held 4-0 edges in both service aces and blocks in the frame.
CSP looked poised for another comfortable victory in set two with a 20-14 lead, but a run of five straight Beaver points pulled Minot State within a single point at 20-19. Concordia regained momentum at that point, winning five of the following six points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Golden Bear offense once again held a significant advantage, logging 16 kills on .211 hitting while the Beavers had just six kills on .037 hitting.
Minot State held an early 5-3 advantage in the third set, but a run of eight Golden Bear points in the following nine serves put CSP back on top at 11-6. The Concordia advantage would hold for the remainder of the set as the Bears went on to claim a 25-16 win to complete the sweep. CSP held significant advantages on offense for the third straight frame, totaling 12 kills on .258 hitting wile the Beavers finished the set with eight kills on another .000 hitting clip.
For the match, Concordia recorded 41 kills with 17 errors on 93 attempts, finishing with a .258 hitting percentage. The Bears held the Beavers to just a .011 hitting percentage, as Minot State tallied 22 kills with 21 errors on 92 swings. Concordia also posted 7–3 leads in both blocks and aces, while adding 39 assists compared to Minot's 21 and 38 digs to the Beavers' 25.
Freshman
Kaelyn Snoozy led the way on offense, finishing with 10 kills on .350 hitting. Through the first nine matches of her career, Snoozy has now reached double figures on offense three times while recording a hitting percentage over .300 six times.
Sophomore
Makenna Nold finished just one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills, 11 digs, three aces, and three blocks in the win.
Senior
Ellie Sieling tied Nold as the team leader in digs with 11 while also contributing seven kills, two aces, and a pair of solo blocks. Junior middle blocker
Mehlayna Straub added two blocks and seven kills on a .417 hitting clip.
Sophomore
Reagan Hickey and redshirt freshman
Audrey Waterman split time at setter for the Golden Bears, with Waterman tallying 19 assists while Hickey finished with 15.
The Golden Bears will now look to cap off a perfect week as they travel south to Bismarck, N.D. on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup against UMary.
