ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Concordia-St. Paul women lacrosse team fell 9-7 to the Wildcats of Northern Michigan in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals Friday night at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium on the campus of Grand Valley State.
Senior Anna Fisher led the Golden Bears with four goals to record her 50th goal of the season and mark her ninth hat-trick of the year.
Susie Monson, Sydney Smith and Shelby Hansen added goals to help lead the Navy and Gold's offense.
Concordia moves to 0-3 against the Wildcats in tournament play after falling in the GLIAC Semifinals the last three years to NMU.
It was the Green and Yellow that put their name on the board first after starting the first quarter on a 3-0 run before Shelby Hansen put a stop to the Wildcats and got the Golden Bears on the board.
Northern Michigan would rifle off another pair of back-to-back goals to extend their lead 5-1 to end the first quarter.
Less than two minutes into the second quarter GLIAC Midfielder of the Year Susie Monson scored her 32nd goal of the season to give CSP the spark it was looking for.
Six minutes later, Anna Fisher would score her first goal of the game and get Concordia within two of the Wildcats. Less than a minute later, Fisher would slice through the NMU defense to score her second goal of the day and get the Golden Bears within one.
After five minutes of back and forth action, the Wildcats would take advantage of a CSP penalty and score a man-up goal to extend their lead 6-4.
With eight seconds left in the first half, the GLIAC Attacker of the Year Josie Lakosky would find the net to end the first half up 7-4.
Coming out from halftime, the Golden Bears and Wildcats held each other scoreless for 10 minutes before the Wildcats would take advantage of another man-up opportunity and take the four goal lead.
Fisher would respond with a pair of back-to-back goals to cut down the deficit and end the third quarter down just two goals.
It was the battle of the fourth quarter with Sydney Smith getting the Navy and Gold on the board less than a minute into the quarter to get within one of the Wildcats.
With just under seven minutes left of play Northern Michigan would score and keep the ball out of the Golden Bears hands and earn the 9-7 victory.
Leading the defense was the GLIAC Defender of the Year Claire Flahaven, tallying four caused turnovers and three draw controls.
GLIAC Freshman of the Year Katie Colleran got her 12th start of the season in net where she made 12 saves to bring her season total to 105 total saves and end her season with a .507 save percentage. Her save percentage ranks first in single-season program history.
CSP slightly edged out NMU 29-27 on shots and 17-16 shots on goal. Both teams tallied 18 ground balls with Concordia holding the 12-7 draw control advantage.
Northern Michigan forced 20 turnovers from the Navy and Gold while going 23-24 on clear attempts.
The Golden Bears will look to carry their strong season into the 2025-26 campaign.
