ST. PAUL, Minn. – This weekend, Concordia-St. Paul (17-25, 13-19 NSIC) will host Bemidji State (5-34, 4-28 NSIC) for a three-game series at Barnes Field. The Golden Bears and Beavers will play a Saturday doubleheader at noon followed by a single 9-inning game at noon on Sunday, honoring the program's 13 seniors following the conclusion of Sunday's game.
The Golden Bears played their first home weekend series last weekend, and will play their last home weekend series this weekend, part of a stretch of 10 home games in a 12-game span that includes a pair of five-game home stretches.
Concordia is coming off of its most challenging portion of the schedule, splitting with fifth-place Winona State and taking one of three over the weekend against second-place Augustana before falling twice in a midweek doubleheader at conference-leading #4 Minnesota State.
CSP enters the final stretch of the schedule against 14
th-place Bemidji State (4-28), 10
th-place Minnesota Duluth (15-17) and fourth-place Sioux Falls (18-14). CSP is two games behind UMD and three games out of the eighth-place tie between St. Cloud State and UMary (16-16).
The games this weekend will be streamed on the NSIC Network with the play-by-play call from Minnesota Gopher and Sioux Falls Canaries broadcaster Tanner Hoops, and feature live in-game statistics to follow along online.
SERIES HISTORY: CSP 52, BSU 25
The Golden Bears and Vikings have met 77 times dating back to 1997 with BSU sweeping the Comets in a non-conference series in late March, that opened an 8-0 start in favor of BSU to open the history between the programs.
The Golden Bears have won the last 13 games dating back to 2019, and 22 of the last 23 dating back to 2015. Head coach
Neil Lerner holds a 12-0 record against BSU since the 2020 season and is 2-0 at Barnes Field against the Beavers, sweeping a doubleheader in 2021.
The Golden Bears have won seven straight at home over Bemidji State, dating back to 2012 when the Beavers took the first three games in a four-game series at Barnes Field.
The last time the teams met was a three-game series in Bemidji in late April, 2024 with CSP sweeping the set with double-digit wins in each contest (17-5, 16-4, 14-0).
Concordia and BSU have played 53 games of the 77 on a campus site with 28 at Barnes Field and Concordia holding an 18-10 record.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN BEARS
Coming off of an NSIC Tournament final four finish, the Golden Bears rank in the top-6 in the NSIC in double plays turned (28), sacrifice bunts (19), strikeouts/9 innings (8.5), walks (184) and triples (8). Their ability to get efficient outs via the strikeout and double play, combined with the ability to put down sacrifice bunts has led to the team repeatedly competing in close contests with 10 1-run games (4-6) and six 2-run games (3-3).
From the top of the lineup,
Kal Brohmer is third in the NSIC with 30 walks while third-batter
Noah Juliar is sixth in the conference with 57 hits and 10th with 12 doubles, while
Koby McBroome, who bookends the lineup hitting mostly leadoff or ninth, is second in the Northern Sun with three triples.
On the mound,
Ian Segna is fifth in the NSIC with a 4.05 ERA, seventh in the NSIC with 2.89 walks/9 innings and ninth in the NSIC with a 2.67 strikeout-walk ratio.
Gavin Rusch is eighth in the conference with 9.34 strikeouts/9 and a 2.71 strikeout-walk ratio.
While not primarily deployed in save situations only, high leverage relief arm
Jack Greenlun is sixth in the NSIC with four saves.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
Despite a 4-28 NSIC record, the Beavers are improved from a year ago, doubling their wins output in league play, most recently snapping a nine-game losing streak by winning the weekend series finale 10-2 over Northern State. BSU also secured a doubleheader split with Minnesota Duluth and took a game in four-game weekend series' with Winona State (game 3) and Sioux Falls (game 1).
Bemidji State's top team statistic is their ninth-place ranking in the NSIC with 1.05 stolen bases per game led by Matt Filippi who is 13-17 on the year, followed by Noah Drusch (8-10), Beau Thoma (6-7) and Jack Feldman (6-11).
Filippi leads BSU in hitting (.311), runs (22), hits (38), is second on the team with a .364 OBP and adds three home runs. Zach Evenson leads BSU with seven home runs and 20 RBIs, a .386 OBP, .891 OPS and is second on the team with a .505 slugging percentage. Adrian Falcon leads the team with a .533 slugging percentage on four doubles, two triples and five home runs while ranking second on the team with 19 RBIs. Thoma is the team's second-leading hitter (.290) and leads the team with nine doubles, adding two home runs.
The Beavers' pitching staff is led by Brandon Lind with a 3-4 record in seven starts, striking out 46 in 38.1 innings with 15 walks, a .265 opponent batting average and a 1.41 WHIP. Matt Greiner is BSU's most frequently utilized pitcher with 21 appearances, holding a 16-8 strikeout-walk ratio in 18.1 innings and a 7.36 ERA. Cole Smith has a pair of saves among his 13 appearances (1 start) with 21 strikeouts in 19.0 innings, a 10.42 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP.

Neil Lerner's career with the game four win over SMSU, which also secured the 3-1 series win. He's been head coach since the COVID-shortened 2020 season and is the third to reach the milestone in Concordia's 4-year college era (1967-68 to present).
