ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team opened their 2025 campaign with a 12-8 win over Lewis on Sunday afternoon in their season opener at Lewis Stadium in Romeoville, Ill.
The Golden Bears are now 5-0 all-time against Lewis and are 4-5 in season openers, with today's win marking their first season opening win since 2020.
Senior Anna Fisher scored a career-high six goals in the win and tied for fourth in single-game goals scored all-time for the Golden Bears.
Fisher also added an assist to her career day to tally seven points to tie her career-game high that currently has her at eighth all-time in total points scored in a game for the program.
Five Golden Bears including Fisher found the net in game one for the Golden Bears, Sara Kaiser, Susie Monson, Sydney Smith and Jenna Hamann.
The Flyers held the lead for most of the first quarter, scoring their first goal of the day in the second minute to go up 1-0 early.
Fisher scored her first goal of the game five minutes later unassisted to even the score.
Lewis scored the next two goals to a singular CSP goal to end the first quarter on the Flyers side 3-2.
Just 70 seconds into the second quarter, Sophomore Jenna Hamann scored just her second-ever goal to tie the game once again and for the Golden Bears they never looked back, taking the lead for the rest of the game.
The Navy and Gold took control and scored back to back goals by Fisher and sophomore Sara Kaiser to go up 8-4. The Flyers added a quick goal before the end of the first to make the score 8-5 at the half in favor of CSP.
In the second half, it was all Golden Bears with the Flyers always playing behind. Susie Monson scored her first goal of the season with an assist by Sara Kaiser to start the second half.
Lewis scored one more of their own before Fisher and Monson each added another in the net to extend the Concordia lead 11-6.
The Flyers were not going down without a fight and fired off back to back goals of their own in the fourth to put the game back in reach at 11-8.
Fisher had the last say and scored her sixth goal of the game to give the Golden Bears the 12-8 win on the road.
Sophomore Erika Holm started in the net, making three saves and earning the win before Marge Lucio entered in the second half. Lucio also tallied three saves in the net.
Monson led the team in draw controls, recording five to add to her stellar resume.
Junior Natalie Brownfield accumulated a team-high four caused turnovers with four ground balls to lead CSP on the defense.
In the final tally, Concordia rifled off 30 shots with 25 of them coming on goal to Lewis who had 20 shots with only 14 hitting on goal.
The Flyers were led offensively by Daniella Winterlik and Catheirne Roney who each scored two goals.
CSP will return to action for their home-opener at the Concordia Dome next Sunday, Feb 16 with a 12 p.m start time.
