Becher and Haack combine for 43 points to pick up seventh straight win

Becher scores 22, Haack scores 21 and Kanenwisher adds a career-high 14 points in 86-61 victory over Minnesota Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. - The No. 19 Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (20-2, 14-2 NSIC) matched its win total from last season with an 86-61 win over Minnesota Duluth (7-14, 5-11 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon. Senior Lindsey Becher scored 22 points and junior Lydia Haack added 21 points. 

Both women each grabbed seven rebounds. Becher added a team-high three steals, three assists and a blocked shot. Haack dished out a team-high five assists with two steals. Becher shot 9-15 (60%) and Haack shot 8-13 (61.5%) to combine for 17-28 (60.7%) as a pair. That's the same percentage Leah Dengerud and Julia Bengtson shot in Thursday's win vs. Minnesota State. 

Senior guard Mikayla Kanenwisher added a career-high 14 points shooting 4-4 (100%) from the field, 2-2 (100%) from behind the arc and 4-4 (100%) from the free-throw line. She also dished out three assists and grabbed two rebounds. Her previous career-high was 12 points she scored against Minot State this season and Wayne State (Neb.) last season. 

The Golden Bears trailed 19-17 after the opening quarter as Minnesota Duluth's Vanessa Bickford hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to take a late lead. The Bulldogs shot 8-15 (53.3%) and Concordia shot 7-12 (58.3%), but CSP had three more turnovers in the opening period. 

Concordia-St. Paul pulled away in the second quarter. After being tied 21-21, CSP went on a 16-3 run sparked by a Becher layup and a Mommsen and-1 layup. Becher had seven of the 16 points during the run. The Golden Bears led 42-32 at halftime. Every single Bulldog player that participated in the first half scored. 

Haack scored 11 points in the third quarter shooting 4-5 (80%) from the field to help CSP outscore Duluth 28-15. CSP used an 11-2 run to start the quarter and an 11-2 run to end the quarter to lead 70-47 after three. Kanenwisher and Becher each tallied seven points in the final quarter with Kanenwisher playing all 10 minutes to seal the 86-61 victory. 

Bengtson added 11 points, two rebounds and two steals. Emma Mommsen scored seven points with five rebounds and a team-high two blocks. Dengerud tallied five points with four assists.

Lauren Wilson scored five points with five rebounds. She banked in a 3-pointer in the opening quarter. Megan Gamble tallied a point with an assist, block and four rebounds. 

The Golden Bears finished the game 33-59 (55.9%) from the field and held Duluth to 25-58 (43.1%). CSP outscored UMD 50-36 in the paint, 23-14 off of turnovers, 10-3 on second-chance points and 9-2 on fast breaks. 

Concordia outrebounded Minnesota Duluth 38-20. Both teams combined for 19-20 at the free-throw line. Minnesota Duluth had 14 turnovers while the Golden Bears finished with 13 turnovers. 

The Bulldogs were led by Lexi Karge with 16 points and six rebounds. Johanna Miller scored 10 points. Claire Bjorge had eight points and Vanessa Bickford scored seven points. Nine different Bulldogs scored in the game. 

CSP has now tied its win total from last season. The Golden Bears remain in a three-way tie for first place in the NSIC with Minnesota State (18-4, 14-2 NSIC) and Southwest Minnesota State (19-2, 13-2 NSIC). Concordia has now won seven straight games. 

The Golden Bears are back in action in the Gangelhoff Center on Thursday, Feb. 6 against Sioux Falls (S.D.) (13-9, 9-6 NSIC) at 7:30 p.m. CSP will then face Wayne State (10-10, 7-9 NSIC) on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
